“working to deliver the most practical wisdom of any newsletter on the web”

Happy 5-2-1 Impact Thursday✨

Here are 5 back to basics high performance insights I've learnt, 2 quotes from others, and 1 conversation starter/ question to think about this week.

Bottoms Up!

3 out of every 4 person is not properly hydrated. The recommended daily intake is 15 cups for men and 12 cups for women. This is basic biology! Do not go straight for coffee when you wake up. Alcohol before bed is not considered hydration. Drink water and make daily hydration an immediate priority!

5 Counts of 4!

Find reasons to add movements and exercise to your daily routine. Consider exercising before work. It trains your brain to release endorphins, which goes on to help you to combat stress the rest of the day. For better efficiency… rope in a buddy and keep each other accountable.

Make Your Bed

  1. Nailing the first task of the day makes you feel good.
  2. Its nice to crawl into at the end of the day.
  3. It (mentally) de-clutters your brain.
  4. It serves as a guidepost for other good habits.

Prepare The Night Before

The idea here is to reduce the decisions you have to make the next morning by making them the night before. Things such as what to wear, the route to work, what to eat etc. It's mentally liberating. Minimise unnecessary decisions so you can relax and ensure maximum mental bandwidth to tackle the new day.

Plan Your Day, Then Focus on EXECUTING

If you don't purposefully and deliberately choose where to focus your energies on, other people, other matters, your friends, colleagues will take it away from you. Take your time with the planning. Start with the end goal and work your way back. Learn to enjoy the process.

“Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them”

– William Arthur Ward

“Smile in the mirror. Do that every morning and you'll start to see a big difference in your life” – Yoko Ono

How do I want to tackle (mentally) this day?

Even as you prepare yourself physically, your brain also needs to be prepped.

How will you approach the day? How would you respond to adversity today? How will you deal with the people you meet?

Even though you don't know how things will turn out, a simple exercise like this prepares your brain and help you function at a higher level.

So go deep, get asking.

And enjoy the process…
